In 1984, the computer gaming market took over from the console market following the crash of that year; computers offered equal gaming ability and since their simple design allowed games to take complete command of the hardware after power-on, they were nearly as simple to start playing with as consoles.
In 1985 the American Video Game market was revived with then release Nintendo's 8-bit console, the Famicon, also known as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) outside of Asia. The NES dominated the North American market until the rise of the next generation of consoles in the early 1990's.
The video game scene exploded in the early to mid 1990's when the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) came out with some of the beginning RTS style games such as Dune 2. This game set the standard game mechanics for later blockbuster games such as, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Command and Conquer, and Starcraft.
